Ever since I was in high school in Denver, CO, every once in a while I would help out at the Mullen Home in Denver with the Little Sisters and I absolutely loved it. Now that I am in college and this Spring into Service opportunity came, there has been nothing I wanted to do more during my spring break than spend it with the Little Sisters of the Poor. I volunteered my time in the Somerville, MA location and I was so blown away by everything and I didn’t ever want to go back to Kansas for school. The hospitality and generosity that the Little Sisters provided for me was unbelievable and all of the Residents were so kind and I just loved spending time with them and getting to know them on a personal level. I thought I was going to Boston to do service for the elderly poor and to say I helped someone, but at the end of all of it, I learned so much more about my discernment process. I learned from this trip that I am even more open to God’s plan and consecrated life could be what he has planned for me. Some of the Sisters there told me about their vocation stories and why they entered when they did and that was just so great to me and showed me that anything could happen and that God can take us by surprise. This trip will be unforgettable and I hope I can return to Boston one day soon.
